Works of the Coordination Branch


The Coordination Branch facilitates effective coordination within the Directorate General of Maritime Administration (DGMA) and supports institutional engagement with the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways (MoPSW), Government of India, other Government authorities and stakeholders across the maritime sector.

The principal functions of the Coordination Branch include:

  • Coordination with the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways: Facilitating communication and coordination between DGMA and the Ministry on matters relating to maritime administration, policy implementation, institutional initiatives and other subjects requiring consolidated inputs from the Directorate.
  • Inter-Ministerial and Inter-Governmental Coordination: Facilitating coordination, wherever required, with other Ministries and Departments of the Government of India, State Governments and other public authorities on matters connected with maritime administration.
  • Coordination among DGMA Wings and Branches: Supporting effective communication and collaboration among the various Wings and Branches of DGMA, particularly on matters requiring inputs or participation from multiple functional areas.
  • Coordination with Allied and Field Offices: Facilitating institutional coordination with Mercantile Marine Departments, allied offices and other organisations associated with the maritime administration framework.
  • Stakeholder Coordination: Supporting engagement and communication with seafarers, shipping companies, maritime training institutions, ports, maritime associations, professional bodies, educational institutions and other maritime stakeholders.
  • Coordination of Meetings and Consultations: Facilitating meetings, consultations and institutional interactions involving DGMA, Government authorities, industry representatives and other maritime stakeholders on matters of common interest.
  • Support for Cross-Functional Maritime Initiatives: Facilitating coordination of programmes, projects and initiatives involving more than one Wing or Branch of DGMA or requiring participation from external stakeholders.
  • Compilation of Institutional Information: Coordinating the collection and consolidation of information from various Wings and Branches for institutional reports, publications, presentations and other official communications of DGMA.
  • Periodic Reports and Publications: Supporting the compilation of important institutional reports and publications, including the Annual Report, Administrative Yearbook and other periodic reports, wherever applicable.
  • Support for Review and Institutional Monitoring: Facilitating the review of important DGMA programmes, initiatives and activities through coordinated exchange of information among the concerned Wings and Branches.
  • Parliamentary and Government References: Facilitating coordination of institutional inputs required in connection with Parliamentary matters and other references received from Government authorities, in consultation with the concerned functional Wings and Branches.
  • Maritime Sector Collaboration: Promoting effective communication and institutional collaboration among Government, industry, maritime professionals, training institutions and other stakeholders to support the overall development of India's maritime sector.
  • Support to DGMA-wide Priorities: Assisting in coordination of important assignments, institutional priorities and matters of wider maritime significance entrusted to the Branch by the competent authority.
