IMCA Middle East and India Regional Meeting held in Mumbai on 03 February 2026.

Capt. Anish Joseph, Deputy Nautical Adviser and Senior Deputy Director General, Directorate General of Shipping, participated in the IMCA (International Marine Contractors Association)-organised Middle East and India Regional Meeting held in Mumbai on 03 February 2026.
The meeting featured wide ranging discussions on key industry themes including fuel consumption monitoring and performance optimisation, promotion of gender diversity within the maritime sector, and diving training practices in the Indian Navy, reflecting the evolving operational, social, and capability priorities of the offshore and marine construction industry.

During the event, Capt. Anish Joseph delivered a presentation on Offshore Oil and Gas Development and Safety in India, emphasising the need for a coherent and robust offshore safety framework aligned with international best practices. He underlined the importance of continued engagement between IMCA and the Directorate General of Shipping through technical guidance, safety intelligence, and offshore incident data, to support India’s transition towards a structured, risk based offshore regulatory regime.

The presentation also highlighted the Directorate General of Shipping’s ongoing initiatives to engage a consultancy firm for the development of comprehensive safety, training, and competency standards for India’s offshore industry, aimed at enhancing operational safety, workforce capability, and regulatory coherence in line with global standards.
