Conference on the Future of Indian Shipbuilding and Repair at INMEX SMM India 2025

The Directorate General of Shipping (DGS) made a powerful impact at INMEX SMM India 2025, held at the Bombay Exhibition Centre, Mumbai. Shri Shyam Jagannathan, Director General of Shipping, delivered the inaugural keynote address, emphasising India’s maritime ambitions and outlining a transformative roadmap for shipbuilding and ship repair.

The keynote session was graced by the Chief Guest – Shri Nitesh Rane, Hon’ble Minister of Fisheries and Ports Development, Government of Maharashtra, who emphasized the state’s commitment to maritime infrastructure, innovation, and employment generation.

Representing the Directorate General of Shipping’s Naval Architecture Wing, Shri Pradeep Sudhakar, Chief Ship Surveyor, highlighted the importance of innovation, regulatory compliance, and design standardization in strengthening India’s maritime manufacturing ecosystem.. Shri Nebu Oommen, Ship Surveyor-cum-Deputy Director General (Technical), shared valuable insights on policy interventions, financial assistance schemes, and the strategic roadmap to enhance domestic shipbuilding capacity.
